Mickey & Minnie

A few weeks ago we had a really fantastic photo shoot for the shoes with Mark Watts. We had many different cool scenes which will go on my website soon, but we wrapped it up with a Mickey and Minnie look.

A very special thank you to my Mickey!  You wear the red shoes well!

Play date with Mei-Chun Jau

The very talented and award winning Mei-Chun Jau stopped by the other day.

Scarpe always crawls on my lap and sits comfortably, as if he is a tiny little puppy.
ps that is 3D chalk! It is terrific!

Our intern Katiefoster briefly experienced a need to run around naked and removed her scarf.

I'm left handed, but I can draw with both hands, especially when playing with 3D chalk.

The intern is paying attention, I am confident she will design some great shoes one day.
3D Chalk + Mei-Chun = FUN!
ps at 5pm Central I will be giving away another pair of shoes because it's my birthday month!
Go to the fan page and play along!

Ornery

I went for a drink with some friends last night and the bar was having an ornament making event.  The owner told me that I had to do one, but it could not be shoes.  Well, of course it would not be shoes!  That would be too easy.

I wasn't really in the ornament making spirit, well,  let me rephrase that, I had never made an ornament or decorated one before, but I played along anyway.

She has a drinking problem, but I would too if I didn't have a body or feet, she can't wear shoes!

Thanks for a good time, Louise.

Where did the time go?

Oh my!  Time has flown by me!  We missed some important moments, like Halloween! And Milan Fashion Week!  Last time I checked in was Fashion Week NY!  Wasn't that a great time?  Fashion's Night Out in NYC was a huge success.   I was so happy with the turnout and the whole city's involvement.
There are many things that I've done but not posted, quite naughty, I know.

I'll start with my latest inspiration... I have done men's shoes before, but always on a private level.  I am so pleased to finally add the men's collection to the Rocio Ildemaro collection!

Oh, wait, don't get too excited.  These things take time.  I have to plan, design, look for materials, test, test again, and test again until I like the last (the shoe form or mold, but really, it's called a Last) do the patterns, test the patterns, check out soles, insoles, etc until I am completely happy with the results.  So look for them within a year or so.  For now I will post and update on the way this line will develop.  The only thing I will not post here, or anywhere are my designs.  Sneaky little rascals out there will steal my ideas and copy them!  And they skip the test, test and test again stages, which I think is cheating!

Oh, back to my inspiration.  I took a trip out west and it was certainly inspiring for my men's collection.

I also visited some friends in Tahoe.

And made it out to one of my favourite and certainly very inspiring spots in the world,  Muir Woods!

I felt everything around me was very masculine.  Whereas in Venice, I see a lot of my inspiration as feminine.  I hope you've enjoyed the little glimpses of what inspired me!
Hugs, kisses and Shoes,
Rocio

Hurray for the new Fashion Season!

There is something exciting about September.  For fashion, it's our new year.  Like our first day of school.  Our show-and-tell.  Our time to play dress up.  Many of us reuniting after the hot summer holidays, eager to share not only our experiences, but our inspirations as well.

I will be participating for Fashion's Night Out in NY this Friday.  What an exciting time to be a designer!

Sunday happens to be my Trunk Show with Ceava Kats of Soho Enamel.

You are all invited to experience with me this Show-and-Tell, to play dress up like we once did as children with great jewelry and fantastic shoes!  The only difference this time is that the shoes will actually fit, and you will not get in trouble, because these will not be mommy's jewels and shoes, these will be just for you!

Hugs Kisses and Shoes,
Rocio

What wear in the heat.

What to wear in in 94° weather?  Pierre Mantoux summer tights of course! OK, other's might call them fishnets, but they are summer tights to me.
My Happy Birthday Elaines and a cheapy dress my friend was going to throw away because she moved to Brooklyn and needed the closet space. Thanks Liza!
I have a slight addiction to tights and gloves.  I would say I have a slight addiction to shoes, but really, why insult your intelligence and waste your time?  You are smarter than that, and would you really believe me?
Hugs kisses and Shoes,
Rocio

Holy Stilettos! Even shoes need sleep!

Holy Stilettos, Batman! What are we doing up this late?  Well, we are working on one very nice something or other for you, so please stay tuned and I think in a few hours after we go to sleep, we'll be ready to show you our fun little project!
Yes, we shoes like to sleep in our cozy little duster bags inside our cozy little shoe boxes.
Why did you think we came boxed like that?
Vanity?
Hah!
This way, we shoes won't wake each other when we come in late from partying and dancing with you all night.
Hugs Kisses and Shoes, even the sleepy ones, Rocio

BBQ! Challenge

  +
= A pretty fun weekend

On Thursday 3 of us took a road trip through Texas and tried three of Lockhart's barbecue places.
These were the rules:
We must eat at all 3.
No sides, just meat.
Enjoy and be ready for dinner in a few hours.

Participants:
The Chef
The Driver
and The Shoe girl

How Mustard As Sole travels:

First Stop:
Smitty's, our FAVOURITE

They serve it in butcher paper, and you have a choice of crackers or white sandwich bread.
No sauce.  The ribs were the best, but it was hard to pick.  Great smoke flavour, smoke ring, and extremely flavourful.  You do not miss the sauce or condiments when you have their barbecue.  YUM!
I personally did not care for the sausage, but that's because I am not used to eating this type.  It tastes like American breakfast sausage, the kind you get in patties.  Is it a Southern American thing?  The friend really liked it and said it was delicious.  The chef not so much, but that's because he also was just concentrating on the ribs and the meat

It looks closed, most people parked in the back of the building and there is an entrance through the back.

When you enter through the back, you walk in by the fire they have on the ground:

This is the smokey delicious pile of meat and bread you receive.

A close up of the sausage, brisket, and ribs!

Second Stop:
This place is more about the sides and sauce, but we did not have any sides, they did, however, have Mexican Cokes! So they get points for that! Oh, and they have bicycle and motorcycle (scooter) parking, another plus.

When you walk into this building, the first thing you smell is sauce.  It is a tangy and sweet aroma.  The ribs had a slight pineapple flavour to them.  The Chef didn't catch it, and I think the Friend was out by this point, but I got this slight pineapple sweetness.  I liked that.

Our final stop:

This is a huge building.  I think they might have planned to make this one an airplane drive through.

This place is similar to Smitty's since they are a result of a family split.
I found their ribs to be on the peppered side.  They are supposed to have the same recipe as Smitty's, but I think someone that day must have been experimenting with a Peppered recipe.  Their shoulder clod was DELICIOUS.

Here it is in a nut shell:

If you want the authentic experience, no forks, no sauce, walk out smelling of smoke, SMITTY'S is for you.  This is for those that are looking for the real Texan barbecue experience.  My favourite!

If you want that, and don't want to leave your airplane, then tell your pilot to take you to Kreuz's Market.  Same butcher paper, no fork, no sauce, and no smokey smell on your clothes and hair when you leave.

If you like sauce, then you should ride your bike (or scooter) over to Black's Barbecue, enjoy a Mexican Coke and take advantage of their bicycle and motorcylcle parking.  Nice shaded outdoor patio as well.
Hugs kisses, BBQ & Shoes, Rocio

Goldie

I am still working on what I was working on this weekend, so I can't post that quite yet.  Instead, I'll share these hints of what I'll wear this week.
Can you guess what this is?  What?  Is it a pineapple?  Well, I'm sure somewhere out there a pineapple is a pineapple, and when asked if it's a pineapple, one should always answer truthfully with a YES, but in this instance, it's not a pineapple, although it is deliciously golden!  Now if only I can figure out the rest of the outfit AND which scooter to ride.
Hugs kisses and Shoes, Rocio

Mami Cleans up after heels

I was busy with the team this weekend going over our new designs (you'll get to see in tomorrow's post!)

When no one was looking the high heels decided to have a party without telling any one of us!  Seriously, Rita and Katiefoster do love a good party, but none of us knew anything about it, so the intern and our communications girls were left out.  My mom came in and had to clean up after them today.   My high heels might be a little shy, but they sure do love to dance.
I guess that's why they do so well at weddings, birthdays, and other festive dancing events.
Hugs, Kisses and Shoes,
Rocio

Bss y zapatos,
Rocio

Mustard OK GOes

I went with little Mustard As Sole to see OK GO in concert.  I think Mustard had a good time.
Fui con Mustard As Sol al concierto de OK GO.  Creo que Mustard se divirtio.

Mustard!  I'm surprised we didn't get kicked out.  Then again, Mustard As Sole can easily sneak up on people when they are rocking out and the speakers are at full concert level loud.

Give Away!

This is the first of several different giveaways!  I have teamed up with Me Loves Love and am so excited to collaborate with them.  They make the cutest headbands and fascinators for weddings, bachelorette parties and other events, and they are only $25.00!  Oh, the best part?  If you want it with a birdcage veil, THERE IS NO CHARGE!  It's still $25.00!!
Hmm, now that I think about it, maybe I shouldn't team up with them, I mean, $25.00 is nothing!  They might make me look bad!  I might start getting emails about "Why don't YOU charge $25.00 for your shoes?" And then, I'll have to start making head bands for your feet, so that I too can charge only $25.00!

Oh, about the give away, buy any headband or hair piece, and be entered to win on of my shoe mobiles. (They will be drawing names several times through out the day)
BUT buy 4 hair accessories from them, and they will automatically GIVE you a free shoe mobile.  So, I guess it's a great deal if someone is getting married, or you happen to collect hair accessories, or there is a party and several of you have plans on wearing something pretty on your hair,  or what ever.
Good luck!
Hugs, kisses and Shoes,
Rocio

Pedaling for Dummies

Went out this weekend and wore my Biondas. I enjoy the look of the blonde pony hair in late spring.
I cheated on Mustard As Sole and took the moped out.  It's fun to pedal around.
Although I do enjoy riding a bicycle, there is something I really love about this little moped. I don't know,  something having to do with less effort, and going up a hill certainly is a breeze!
